Really fucked up actually that the “you are valid” culture which, usefulness and uh, validity thereof aside, was intended to provide some some perspective for people who may have been blamed for harmless things they could not control morphed into “if strangers on the internet do not constantly tell me I’m good and perfect they are the oppressor” and “even constructively and gently telling me that I hold some power and responsibility to seek a better situation is an unspeakably cruel act.”

Once, in an argument with my therapist about a decision I made to antagonize my mother, I snapped, “My feelings are valid,” and he shot back, “They’re valid because they’re real, but that doesn’t make them rational.”

It was a more nuanced and tailored conversation after that, but that particular quote struck me especially and made me realize how often I was conflating “valid” with “reasonable” or “justified.”

your feelings are valid == you are allowed to feel what you feel

your feelings are valid =/= whatever actions you take based purely on your emotions is reasonable and right

your feelings are valid. that doesn’t mean your understanding of a situation is correct; it doesn’t mean you haven’t misunderstood something; it doesn’t mean you have the right to hurt someone else because you feel hurt, or unhappy, or sad, or angry, even if they obviously ‘deserve’ it for how they made you feel

your feelings are valid; you are not wrong for feeling whatever way you feel. But just because you feel something doesn’t make it true

One of the only thing the 2000s had going for it was the mythbusters. Those dudes ruled, nobody hated the mythbusters, I mean they hated each other but nobody else hated the mythbusters

An entire generation of scientists, engineers, and psychos with access to amphetamines owe so much to them

i’ll never get over the fact that there’s a movie called “snakes on a plane” and in that movie there’s a line that is, verbatim, “ive had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane”.

that is absolutely bonkers. that’s ridiculous. that’s like making a movie called “gators in the sewer” and having someone in the movie say “im getting really sick and tired of these fucking gators in the sewer”

the funny part is that the alternate title was something mundane like “flight 93″ and samuel l. jackson made the director change it back to “snakes on a plane” bc he said it was the only reason he auditioned

oh my god, the youth have forgotten that there was a huge viral phenomenon when this movie was being filmed, where the internet got wind of the working title snakes on a plane, and a) demanded that title be made official, b) CAME UP WITH the line about these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane, and c) GOT THE LINE INCLUDED IN THE ACTUAL MOVIE

You forgot the part where three up and coming bands in the emo scene collaborated to write a song called Snakes On a Plane and filmed a music video of themselves smuggling snakes onto a plane, and it practically launched all of their careers.

If you think for one second of my worthless life I have forgotten “Bring It (Snakes on a Plane)” released by Cobra Starship (2006) then you can think the fuck again

I heard reference to something about how all anime are required to have good looking cabbage because of That One Time. So simply looking up “anime cabbage” I found the source.

Some harem anime way back in the day had an episode where the characters cooked, and they animated cabbage so terribly like this it left a bad mark on the anime community forever. Apparently this is part of the reason why all food usually looks good in anime, even moreso than the regular show sometimes. With cabbage being especially well drawn.

    image

A complaint, apparently in a paper.

    image

The first show when released internationally was reanimated in this part.

    image

And high quality or low quality cabbage is sometimes referenced.

    image

I learned of this because the most recent Hologra episode has noel eating cabbage, tearing apart a fine quality cabbage into two low poly halves.

i love learning about other cultures’ memes, especially like this

I went to see Parasite completely blind besides being aware (unavoidably) that there was a hard tonal shift at some point. I saw the poster and stuff, but that was it

the entire time I was bracing myself for it to shift into some sort of alien parasite psychological horror movie, which seems really presumptuous, except I saw Bong Joon-ho’s The Host and that movie actually did have a giant monster in it, so I wasn’t putting it past him

god the class dynamics in this movie are so stressful already… keeping up this double life while still taking care of your family…… and if that’s not bad enough, they’re gonna have to deal with The Parasite when it shows up

Here’s a link to the Stress First Aid instructors manual (2018) from the U.S. Forest Service Department of Agriculture, directed at Wildland Firefighters. It explains the original diagnostic tool cited under the adapted graphic above (Watson et al. (2013)), which was based off a model developed by the Navy / USMC for identifying and mitigating combat stress / potential PTSD.  The link below provides an overview of the stress continuum model (ie: basis for the adapted graphic above) but also basic tenets of the stress first aid model and how to employ them:
